Demonstrators hold anti-Israeli protests in Beirut, clash with police near US embassy

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Thousands protesting Israel’s ground offensive on Gaza converged Sunday in Beirut and Istanbul as the leaders of the only two Mideast Arab nations to sign peace treaties with Israel demanded an end to the attack.

In Yemen, security officials said anti-Israel protesters attacked several Jewish homes in the northern province of Omran, smashing windows and pelting them with rocks. The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media, said at least one Jewish resident was injured among the tiny minority community.

Lebanese police used water hoses to try to push about 250 demonstrators away from the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon’s capital. When that failed, they fired tear gas, Lebanese security officials said. A second Beirut protest — a sit-in outside the U.N. building — drew thousands of supporters of Hamas and Lebanon’s Islamic Group.

In Turkey, more than 5,000 people held an anti-Israel rally in Istanbul, waving Palestinian flags and burning effigies of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and President George W. Bush. Also in Istanbul, club-wielding police broke up a small demonstration by protesters who hurled eggs at the Israeli Consulate, the private Dogan news agency reported. There were no reports of arrests or injuries.

In Morocco, tens of thousands gathered in the capital Rabat for a peaceful march to protest the Gaza offensive. Police estimated the turnout at 50,000, according to the official MAP news agency. Organizers said the number was bigger, but did not give a precise figure.

Israel’s weeklong aerial bombardment of Gaza and the start of the ground offensive Saturday against Hamas have drawn condemnation across the Muslim and Arab world and news coverage of the invasion has dominated Arab satellite television stations.

Thousands in cities from Tehran to Damascus have also taken to the streets to protest the attacks, which have killed about 500 Palestinians and wounded more than 1,600, according to Gaza officials.

What Happened to Karl Rove’s IT Guru Mike Connell?

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

Was Mike Connell, the Computer IT Guru for Rove and Bush, plane crash an accident? Connell’s private plane crashed while attempting to land at the Akron-Canton, OH airport the evening of Friday, 12/19/2008. Connell received threats from Karl Rove according to friends close to Connell prior to the 2008 election when Connell was subpoenaed to testify about his role in the Ohio 2004 election. Plaintiffs Attorney, Cliff Arnebeck, sent letters to John Conyers, Dennis Kucinich, Attorney General Mukasy and the Ohio Sec. of State, Jennifer Bruner, July 2008, warning them that Connell needed their protection. Connell knew things that others might not want revealed.

Was Connell’s plane crash an accident due to bad weather? Are other colleagues of Connell potentially in danger for their knowledge about missing white house emails that might reveal inside information regarding the U.S. Attorney scandals, election manipulation, and more?

The facts: Mike Connell was compelled to testify in Ohio on Nov. 3, 2008 about his role in assisting the former Ohio Sec. of State Kenneth Blackwell in the 2004 Ohio presidential election. Evidence shows that the Ohio live election results in Nov. 2004 went to Connells Smartech servers in Chattanooga, TN before going to the Ohio Sec. of State website. This man-in-the-middle arrangement could have resulted in massive election fraud.

Mike Connell, according to some sources, was scared. Even though he had been a loyalist for the Bushes and Karl Rove for many years and for the 2000 & 2004 elections, Connell thought he might be thrown under the bus by Cheney and Bush.

Was Connells plane crash an accident? There must be a thorough investigation into the circumstances of Connells demise.

Fox News Likes YouTube Censorship?

Monday, December 29th, 2008

On Fox News, Bill O’Reilly and Amanda Carpenter were more than happy to report on the new restrictions on YouTube, though without reporting on the the changes in profanity rules that are proving most controversial. Meanwhile, Fox Television, joined by other broadcast networks, is fighting all the way to the US Supreme Court to protect their right to broadcast profanity.

The changes in YouTube policy I discuss in this video are detailed in the December 2, 2008, YouTube blog entry at http://www.youtube.com/blog?entry=AEX3_7h40mk

The short clip I used from “The O’Reilly Factor” was broadcast on Fox News on December 10, 2008.

The oral argument in Fox Television v FCC in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals from which I took two short clips for my video was originally broadcast on C-SPAN on December 20, 2006 and is available in full on the C-SPAN video archive online at http://www.c-spanarchives.org/library/index.php?main_page=product_video_info&products_id=195903-1

Gay USA Highlight: December 9, 2008

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

At the top of the news, a brutal attack on a man in Brooklyn who was perceived as being gay because he was walking arm and arm with his brother has left Jose Sucuzhanay, 31, brain dead and has been taken off life support. We incorrectly reported that he had actually died based on published reports on Tuesday and he indeed may have by the time you see the show.

This week we explore an outrage in New York where police are falsely arresting gay men for prostitution. The scandal was exposed by Duncan Osborne of the Gay City News and he will join us for our last twenty minutes along with Robert Pinter, one of the gay men arrested in this disgusting abuse of police power. You can read Duncan’s story at:

http://www.gaycitynews.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=20213303&BRD=2729&PAG=461&dept_id=568864&rfi=6

Mr. Pinter has started a group called the Coalition to Stop the Arrests, You can contact him at STOPTHEARRESTS@aol.com

There will be a town hall meeting for the Coalition to Stop the Arrests on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009 at 7 PM at the LGBT Community Center in NY at 208 W. 13th St. The meeting is co-sponsored by the Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project and the Center’s Office on Public Policy and Governmental Relations.

NOTE: I chastise our out gay elected officials and myself as an activist on the show for not doing enough to protest these false arrests. I should say that after taping our report, out gay State Senator Tom Duane of Chelsea and the West Side did indeed call me back and is looking into this outrage. We all have to get activated when police power is abused in this way because it makes us all targets of a tremendous injustice.

The Pentagon Papers [unedited]

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

In 1971, then US Senator Mike Gravel released a collection of top-secret government documents, deemed “The Pentagon Papers” into the public record, bringing to public light the series of lies and false pretenses under which the United States invaded Vietnam.

This is the entirety of the footage the Gravel campaign has obtained thus far, and both the audio and video cut out occasionally.

Per request, we put this clip in its entirety on Youtube. However, you can download or play a high resolution version here:
